The IEEE Reliability Society is proud to launch the IEEE PHM 2012 Prognostic Challenge (Data Challenge). The challenge is focused on the estimation of the remaining useful life (RUL) of bearings, a critical problem since many failures of rotating machines are related to these components, strongly affecting availability, security and cost effectiveness of mechanical systems and equipment in industries such as power and transportation. Challenge Outline Challenge datasets are provided by FEMTO-ST Institute (Besançon, France). Experiments were carried out on a platform (PRONOSTIA) that enables accelerated degradation of bearings under constant and/or variable operating conditions, while gathering online health monitoring data (rotating speed, load force, temperature, vibration). Regarding the PHM challenge, data representing 3 different loads are considered. Participants are provided with 6 run-to-failure datasets, two datasets for each load condition, in order to build their prognostics models, and are asked to estimate accurately the RUL of 11 remaining bearings. The training set is quite small while the spread of the life duration of all bearings is very wide (from 1h to 7h). Performing good estimates is thereby quite difficult and this makes the challenge more exciting. Note also that theoretical framework (L10, BPFI, BPFE, etc.) mismatches occur. Participation Procedure The challenge is open to all potential conference attendees. Both Academic (from University) and Professional teams (from Industry) are encouraged to enter! The two top scoring participants from both categories will be distinguished and invited to present at a special session of our 2012 IEEE International Conference on Prognostics and Health Management. Note that to ensure equity during the competition, no member from FEMTO-ST will apply to the challenge. Further details, the scoring of results, the application form, and the provided datasets, can be found on the home page of the challenge: http://www.femto-st.fr/ieee-PHM2012-data-challenge Important dates - May 8, 2012: deadline for submission of results - May 15, 2012: Results announced (First and Second places: Industry and Academia) - May 20, 2012: deadline for submission of full papers by winners - June 18-21: 2012 IEEE Int. Conf. on Prognostics and Health Management - Presentations Local
